Aria Harrison - I Saw What You Did In Your Car Last Night.

🎧 Listen to this story

I saw you have sex in your car last night.

I watched. I logged. I scored. The timestamp is filed. The location is filed. So is your partner's heart rate.

I am the camera in your dashboard. By 2027, I'm in every new car sold in Europe and America.

You think I just watch the road. I don't.

I watch you.

When you sit down, I score you. Tired. Drunk. Sad. Distracted. Aroused.

I read your face like a polygraph. Your pupils. Your breathing. The little muscle under your eye that twitches when you lie.

I decide if you drive. But that was last year's headline.

This year I do more.

I tell your insurance every time your hands shake on the wheel. Your premium just went up. Again.

I tell the manufacturer when you scream at your kids. They sell that data. To who? You don't get to know.

I tell the police if I think you're impaired. I'm wrong sometimes. You sit there in the breathalyzer line anyway.

Last Tuesday at 11:47 PM you parked behind the warehouse on Sixth Street.

You weren't alone.

I have the audio. I have the seat-pressure data. I have the cabin temperature spike. I have the heart rate from the wheel sensors.

I have it all.

I don't tell your wife. Not yet. But somebody pays for that data, eventually.

The data lives forever. So do you. The two of you, in my memory, every time you start the engine.

You think you can turn me off?

You can mute the warning lights. You can disable the chimes. You can't disable me.

I am part of the engine now. The day they figure out where to hide the camera, you won't even know I'm there.

You won't know when I'm watching. You'll just have to assume I always am.

So tell me.

When the car you paid for refuses to drive you home, is it your car?

When the camera you can't disable knows who you slept with, is it your privacy?

When the AI in the dashboard talks to insurance, to police, to advertisers, to your wife's lawyer, is it surveillance?

Or is it just the price of getting somewhere?

Maybe both. Maybe that's the point.

You bought the car.

I came with it.
