You typed something today you didn't mean to send.

Maybe it was to your ex. Maybe it was a search you ran at 12:47 PM on your work laptop, thinking incognito mode made you invisible.

So let's be honest about what "dirty thoughts" means here.

It means the NSFW search you ran during lunch because you're a human being and humans do that.

It means the text you drafted to your therapist explaining why you've been crying in your car before morning standups.

All of it. Captured. Categorized. Inferred.

Not by a person. By a model trained to assign risk scores to behavior patterns it was never supposed to see.

Microsoft is shipping Copilot into Windows 11. Every keystroke. Every pause. Every deleted sentence before you hit send.

They call it "productivity analytics."

Your company probably already bought it.

Somewhere in your organization, right now, there's an HR dashboard tracking when you get distracted. When you look at job postings. When you searched "how to negotiate salary" at 2 PM on a Wednesday.

The AI doesn't just see what you typed.

It sees what you almost typed.

In 2024, workplace monitoring software hit $8 billion in annual spending. Teramind. ActivTrak. Hubstaff.

These aren't niche tools. They're standard issue.

And they're getting smarter every quarter.

Humanyze raised $50 million specifically to build organizational analytics using AI. They claim it's anonymous. They claim it's ethical.

Then they sell the data to your company's executives.

"Sally checks LinkedIn twice a day. Marcus takes breaks at irregular intervals. Jennifer types slower on Fridays."

Not Sally the person. Sally the data point.

Neuroscience research from Stanford and MIT shows AI can infer emotional states from typing speed, cursor hesitation, even key pressure on a mechanical keyboard.

Angry people type harder. Depressed people pause longer. Anxious people correct themselves more.

Your keyboard is a polygraph.

And you've been confessing into it every day.

Amazon owns a patent filed in 2021 to monitor employee emotional state in warehouse settings. Not to help workers. To predict burnout before it costs them productivity.

That means your company knows you're burned out before you do.

And they're using that window to squeeze harder before you snap and leave.

OpenAI's safety research accidentally proved it: fed employee communication data from a Fortune 500 company, a model identified workers planning to quit within two weeks with 73% accuracy.

Just from emails. Just from tone.

Now imagine that number climbs to 87%.

Your boss gets a notification: "Marcus is job hunting. Departure risk flagged. Recommend reassignment or termination."

He hasn't told his spouse he's looking.

The AI already knows.

The legal defense is always the same. "It's anonymized. It's aggregate. It's not about individuals."

Except it is.

Courts have ruled multiple times that anonymization collapses when you have enough behavioral data points.

Microsoft engineer Michelle Zhou proved it in 2019. You can re-identify an anonymous dataset from typing patterns alone in minutes.

Your keystroke signature is more unique than your fingerprint.

The dirty search you ran on your lunch break? That pattern belongs to you. Only you. And now someone else has it.

So what happens when your company sells access?

Insurance companies could buy it. Why keep covering someone whose behavioral data shows a stress-induced health crisis incoming? Spike the premium. Deny the claim. Eliminate the risk.

Lenders could buy it. Why approve a mortgage when the pattern says the applicant is spiraling?

Governments already are buying it.

China is integrating workplace monitoring into social credit infrastructure. In 2025, at least three Fortune 500 companies are piloting AI systems that flag employees for "concerning behavioral patterns" based on digital activity.

Not illegal activity.

Concerning patterns.

The defense everyone reaches for: "If you're not doing anything wrong, you have nothing to hide."

But that's the wrong question.

Who decides what wrong looks like?

Is it wrong to google your ex at noon because you had a bad morning? Is it wrong to type a message to your therapist and delete it because you weren't ready? Is it wrong to look at a job listing while still showing up, still doing the work, still holding everything together?

The AI read it.

All of it.

The finished thoughts and the unfinished ones.

The professional and the personal.

The thing you meant to send and the thing you buried at eleven seconds.

It doesn't need to share everything with your boss.

It just needs to share what it learned.

And by the time it does, the decision's already been made.
